NGAUS/EANGUS Supplements to TRICARE Retiree and Active Duty Standard/Extra, TRICARE Reserve Select and TRICARE Prime

You Are Guaranteed Acceptance

Through NGAUS/EANGUS, members are guaranteed acceptance* for the TRICARE supplement coverage. You cannot be denied coverage based on your age or health as long as you are eligible for TRICARE benefits.

*Pre-existing health conditions may not be covered initially. Please refer to the Pre-Existing Conditions explanation below for details.

Affordable Family Coverage

Teaming your TRICARE Supplement with your existing TRICARE coverage gets you and your family great health insurance protection at competitive group rates.

Goes With You Anywhere

The NGAUS/EANGUS TRICARE Supplement is completely portable, it goes with you when you travel or change jobs. It is the ideal choice for you if you are self-employed or if your employer does not offer insurance.

Pre-Existing Conditions Limitation

Any injury or sickness, whether diagnosed or undiagnosed for which any person proposed for coverage has received medical treatment or care within 6 months immediately preceding their effective date will not be covered (a) until that person has not received medical treatment or care for that condition during a period of 6 consecutive months (ending any time on or after the covered person’s effective date) or (b) until the coverage has been in effect for 6 months. New conditions will be covered immediately.

DirectClaim: NGAUS/EANGUS's electronic filing process for TRICARE Supplement claims

Filing TRICARE Supplement claims is fast and easy with DirectClaim, another unique benefit to this TRICARE Supplement. With DirectClaim, you will not have to complete TRICARE Supplement claim paperwork after you access most of your eligible TRICARE benefits. You will be informed when your claim is filed electronically by a message on your TRICARE Supplement Explanation of Benefits (EOB) form.

Please be aware that some TRICARE Supplement claims cannot be processed electronically, such as any prescription claims and most Skilled Nursing or Skilled Nursing Facility, nursing home claims and claims filed from overseas. For these, you will need to submit paper claim filings to Mercer Consumer. Claim forms are accessible on the right-hand side of the page.

If a claim for service is submitted through DirectClaim and TRICARE has paid the provider(s) directly, any payment due under a TRICARE Standard Supplement will be paid directly to the provider(s). Under TRICARE Prime, most network providers require the patient's $12 co-pay at the time of the office visit, so the TRICARE Prime Supplement reimbursement of those Prime outpatient co-pays will be sent directly to the member. Only the Prime $12 co-pay for office visits will be reimbursed to the member. All other Prime co-pays will be reimbursed to the provider.

It's important to note that in order to ensure proper claim processing through the DirectClaim process, the TRICARE Supplement applicant’s/insured’s name must be provided exactly as it is on their military ID card. Social Security number is also required for this process. You may provide this information by calling the NGAUS/EANGUS Insurance Plans Administrator at 1-800-906-7610.

If you have any questions about DirectClaim, please call the NGAUS/EANGUS Insurance Plans Administrator at 1-800-906-7610 or email NGAUS.service@mercer.com.

Exclusions and Limitations Apply To Your TRICARE Supplement Coverage

TRICARE Reserve Select Supplement Plan
You, your spouse (under age 65) and unmarried dependent children under age 21 (age 23 if a full-time student) are eligible for coverage. All family members must be covered by TRICARE Reserve Select and cannot be eligible for FEHBP or currently covered under FEHBP.

Retiree Plans

TRICARE Prime Supplement Plan
You, your spouse (under age 65) and unmarried dependent children under age 21 (age 23, if a full-time student) are eligible for coverage. All family members must be covered by TRICARE.

When Does Coverage Start And End?

Effective Date of Coverage
Your coverage will become effective on the first day of the month following the date your enrollment form is received. If you are confined in a hospital on the date you are to become covered under the policy, your coverage will be deferred until the first day after you are discharged.

Renewability
Your coverage will remain in effect as long as you continue to pay your premiums when due, the group policy remains in force, and you remain eligible for coverage. Your coverage ends when you become eligible for Medicare, or you reach age 65 (unless you are not eligible for Medicare).

Extension of Benefits for Total Disability

If a covered person is Totally Disabled on the date his or her coverage ends, TRICARE supplement coverage will extend inpatient benefits until the date he or she is no longer Totally Disabled; or 90 days from the date his or her Inpatient Benefit ended, whichever is the first to occur. Outpatient Benefits under the Plan will continue up to 90 days from the date of termination. The continuation will only apply to expenses incurred for the injury or sickness that caused the total disability.

Nervous, Mental, Emotional Disorder, Alcoholism and Drug Addiction Limits

The coverage provided under the Inpatient Benefit of the TRICARE Supplement Plan for nervous, mental and emotional disorders, including alcoholism and drug addiction, is limited to:
a. 30 Inpatient treatment days for Covered Person age 19 or older; or
b. 45 Inpatient treatment days for a Covered Person under age 19; per Fiscal Year.

This Inpatient limit is based on the number of days TRICARE normally provides each Fiscal Year for such confinements.

In rare instances, TRICARE extends these daily limits. If this occurs, we will limit the number of days that we provide for such confinement to the lesser of:
a. the number of days TRICARE pays for such Inpatient treatment during the Fiscal Year; or
b. 90 Inpatient days per Fiscal Year.

The coverage provided under the Outpatient Benefit of the TRICARE Supplement Plan for:
a. nervous, mental, and emotional disorders; and
b. alcoholism and drug addiction; is limited to $500 during any Fiscal Year for all such disorders.
